We’ll celebrate the end of the unique holiness of Shabbat and the beginning of the more routine holiness of the week days with a short havdalah ritual led by Rabbi Leila, followed by some social time for parents while the kids have some special fun, learning time with the rabbi!
Then, in true Kol Ami (and Jewish!) tradition, We’ll all enjoy a potluck dinner and schmoozing! The service starts at 5:00 and the schmooze ends at 8:00pm. Bring yourselves, your kids, and a dairy, vegetarian dish. This event will be at Erika and Bruce Falk’s house in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. Please contact erikaafalk@gmail.com to rsvp and get directions.

The Kol Ami Book Club is reading The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz. Subtitled "The True Story of a Trek to Freedom", we chose this book to follow on Michaelangelo in Ravensbruck. This book is also a rare choice for us - it doesn't touch on a Jewish theme. Rawicz was an officer in the Polish army who was imprisoned by the Russians in 1939. After months of planning their escape, he and an intrepid band of fellow prisoners begin their trek from the Siberian prison camp to freedom. But where is freedom if you begin your walk during winter 1939-1940 in northeastern Russia not far from the Arctic Circle?
We will meet on Sunday, February 26th at La Casa Restaurant, 4551 Duke Street, Foxchase Shopping Center, Alexandria at 12:30 p.m. Please join us!
KANVRC News is an announcement-only e-mail list for visitors who want information about upcoming Kol Ami events and programs sponsored by the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation (JRF) or Chesapeake Region JRF. Kol Ami members receive this and other information on an internal e-mail list.
