The event is free; however, Kol Ami members are requested to please bring either a dessert or side dish for the pot luck - the main entree will be provided.  Feel free to relax with us while your children have fun with their peers

The Kol Ami Book Club is reading The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz.  Subtitled "The True Story of a Trek to Freedom", we chose this book to follow on Michaelangelo in Ravensbruck.  This book is also a rare choice for us - it doesn't touch on a Jewish theme.  Rawicz was an officer in the Polish army who was imprisoned by the Russians in 1939. After months of planning their escape, he and an intrepid band of fellow prisoners begin their trek from the Siberian prison camp to freedom. But where is freedom if you begin your walk during winter 1939-1940 in northeastern Russia not far from the Arctic Circle?

We will meet on Sunday, February 26th at La Casa Restaurant, 4551 Duke Street, Foxchase Shopping Center, Alexandria at 12:30 p.m.  Please join us!

On March 10th, Jane Schulman and Carolyn Gray, joined this year by Richard Ruth, will once again lead a service focused on reading and interpreting the Book of Esther.  We will lead a reading of the entire megillah.  The discussion will be geared to adults who want to gain deeper insight into a story most often celebrated for and by children.  Please join us for a relaxed, enjoyable, and thoughtful morning.

The service will start at 10 a.m. in the Activity Room.  Participants are encouraged to bring a dairy/vegetarian dish to share for the potluck kiddush following the service.

Start: Mar 11 2012 4:30 pm

Purim is coming! Purim is coming!... and it's coming to Kol Ami (in the Fellowship Hall at the UUHC in Arlington) on Sunday, March 11, from 4:30 to 6:30!  The festivities begin with a potluck supper, to be followed with the Megillah reenactment, and singing. Please bring a dish of your choice; we will provide beverages. Start practicing your cheers (Esther) and jeers (Haman): we're going to make a joyful noise. Come one, come all, and come in costume (if you dare)! For those of you with children enrolled in JCEP - there will be no class that day.
